[GR] Σήμερα θα σας μιλήσω για το καλύτερο μαγαζί με παιχνίδια (arcade) που δεν υπάρχει πια.

Anata no warehouse = η αποθήκη σου, ένα game center απομίμηση της συνοικίας Kowloon του Hong Kong. Αυτήν με τα τερααααστια κτήρια-τσιμέντα, που ζούσαν άνθρωποι ο ένας πανω στον άλλον, που ήταν η πρόσωποποιηση της αναρχίας μέχρι τη στιγμή που κατεδαφιστηκε από τις αρχές. Βλέπετε τις κρεμασμένες (ψεύτικες) πάπιες Πεκίνου στην αυλίτσα;

Εσωτερικά, έχουν αντιγράψει τα θεόστενα μπαλκόνια με θέα στον ακάλυπτο, όπως συμβαίνει πραγματικά στα διαμερίσματα του Chungking Mansion (έχετε δει την ταινία; 😎). Δυστυχώς, το anata no warehouse έκλεισε οριστικά το Νοέμβριο του 2019. Το μεγάλο Sega game center της Akihabara έκλεισε επίσης μέσα στο 2021. Είναι αυτοί οι τίτλοι τέλους για τα παιχνίδια; Ισως, αλλά εγώ θα ελπίζω να ξαναεμφανιστουν σε άλλη μορφή.

[EN] Today I’m going to talk to you about the best arcade game center that exists no more.

Anata no warehouse (which means “your warehouse”) used to be a game center that tried to imitate the feeling of the walled city of Kowloon, in Hong Kong. You know, that giant city block, with thick cement walls and tall buildings, the one where thousands lived each day one on top of each other. The one that used to be the personification of anarchy and self-sustainability until it was demolished by state authorities. Can you see the Peking ducks that are hanging at the backyard?

Internally, the game center has copied the tiny balconies of Kowloon, that had a view to the interior courtyard, exactly the same as it happens in the legendary Chungking Mansion (have you watched the movie? If not, watch it asap). In between the weird décor, one can find various games, including Tekken and driving simulators, even billiards and slot machines. However, the variety was limited compared to established game centers e.g. Sega.

Unfortunately, Anato no Warehouse shut off its doors permanently in November 2019. The largest Sega game center of Akihabara also shut down in 2021. Is this the end for arcade game centers? Maybe, but I still hope that they will reappear in another, novel form.
